The Sterling
Cougars are a volunteer-led youth football league in
Northern Virginia. At the team's first organizational meeting in early
August 2008, parents were asked who might have the time and skills to
build the team its own website. Simplweb veteran Bill E. raised his
hand, because he knew he could bang out a basic website for the team in
a couple hours work. Offer the practice schedule as a pdf? Check. List
the games, dates, and locations? No problem. Map to the practice field?
Easy.
Once he dove into the task, however, Bill couldn't help
himself.
With a lot of help from the Simplweb support forum,
he created a
very complex site structure which gives every part of the Cougar
organization- players, parents, coaches, Team Moms, cheerleaders- their
own spot to share information. With the idea of "many hands make light
work"in mind, he set up a Flickr account and shared it with his
fellow parents, so that they can all upload their game pictures to
Flickr
and have them feed into the website automatically.
A life-long Dallas fan, Bill wanted to see if he could build a
website almost as good as the Cowboys. Check out sterlingcougars.simplwebsite.com
and see how close he came. While not as good as a billion dollar NFL
franchise, the Cougars' website is the pride of their league. |
