Lesson 4 - Working With Articles and the Editor
The whole purpose of your website is, obviously, to display content. As we saw in the beginner tutorials, there are many different ways to display your content, through modules and such, but it is almost always held in articles. This guide will familiarise you with managing your content and using the editor that comes installed with your Simplweb site.
You will have learned how to edit your content, both from the frontend and the backend, in the first two beginner lessons, but here we will go into more depth so you can get a strong grasp of the capabilities of the editor. You will learn how to format your content, and how to use the editor to display it in the most suitable way, whether through tables, images, or formatted text.
The Article Details
When you go to edit an article, you find a bar above the area in which you place your content, like the one shown below. This bar is a default feature of the Joomla! CMS, and is not part of the editor, which will be introduced later in this guide. Unlike the editor, which can be toggled on or off, this article details bar is a constant for every article editing page.
Whenever you edit an article, it is crucially important to always make sure your article details have been filled out properly. You should put a title for your article into the 'Title' field, making sure it is relevant to the content of the article. You also need to have an alias in the 'Alias' field, as this determines how the web address of your article. It is usually easiest to leave this field blank and let Joomla create its own alias based on the title you enter.
