How to troubleshoot JContact

Here are steps to troubleshoot the JContact component if it is not connecting to your iContact account.  Most JContact problems arise from users changing their iContact account password.  The API uses a separate password which is set to the account password during the API registration process.  Subsequent changes to the account password will not update the API password.

Problem:  My list of iContact Lists is not showing up when I try add a JContact registration list.

Most likely cause: iContact account password has been changed since API registration.  The  iContact account and iContact API passwords are not the same.

Solution:

  1. Login to your SimplWeb site admistrator and open JContact Main Stettings. Components -> JContact -> Main Settings
  2. Open a separate browser tab or window and login to iContact.
  3. Go to this URL http://app.icontact.com/icp/core/externallogin
  4. Copy "Application Key" and paste into the "Application Key" field near the bottom of the page.  The text is misleading.  It says "Register a New Application".  You just need to update your password, so paste your key in the form field and enter your new password where it says "Application Password"
  5. Click the SAVE button.
  6. Back in your SimplWeb site JContact Main Stettings, verfiy your API Key and Shared Secret by clicking the register app link "http://app.icontact.com/icp/core/registerapp"
  7. Enter your new API password in the "JContact password" field.
  8. Click the SAVE button to save your new JContact settings.
  9. Try selecting a JContact registration list.  You should now see the lists you've setup in iContact.

If this doesn't work, kick the waste basket, take a deep breath, then post in the Forum and we'll try to help.
